How to Remove Antivirus from Your Computer

One way of keeping your computer secure is protecting it from malwares. A malware is any malicious code that infects your computer and cause it to perform tasks, usually harmful tasks, which you did not intend it to perform. One type of malware that commonly plagues computers are viruses.

A computer virus is a program that is designed to interfere with the operations and functions of your computer. It is usually transmitted from one computer to another.

One particular business that is known for being air conditioning experts in Brisbane that currently use computer software to monitor and manage their past installations said that from their bad experience : “When the virus enters your computer system, it can corrupt or delete your files, hack your email and spread itself through the internet and other computers, or worse, wipe your hard disk clean along with all programs in it.”

Hence, it is important to have an antivirus installed. However, there are instances that when you buy a computer there is already an antivirus trial pre-installed. This may be great but when it is not what you prefer, you can just uninstall it.

This may also be the case if you installed a program but requires the installation of an antivirus to also start the program’s installation process. You can go through with the installation, and uninstall the antivirus afterwards. However, be careful with this because there are some antivirus software bundled with another program that turn out to be not an antivirus software at all and may cause problems.

There are several methods on how to remove antivirus software. These methods are as follows:

Through the Start Menu

Go the ‘Start Menu’ and click ‘All Programs’. Find the name of the antivirus software that you want to remove, then right-click. A pop-up will appear when you do this. Select ‘uninstall’ and the uninstallation process will begin.

Through the Search bar

You can also uninstall through the search bar found in the ‘Start Menu’. In the search bar, type the name of the antivirus. The search bar will come up with various files with the name, if you have multiple files with the same name. Choose the name of the antivirus (usually with the logo), right-click. Click ‘uninstall’, when a pop-appears, which start the removal process. You can read in interesting post about Laptop Computers vs Desktop Computers by clicking here.

Through the Control Panel

In the ‘Start Menu’, click the ‘Control Panel’ button usually at the side along with ‘Documents’, ‘Recent files’, and the like. In the Control Panel Wizard, select ‘Programs’ then ‘Uninstall a program’. A list will come out. Scroll over the list and choose the antivirus software you want to remove and click ‘uninstall’ or ‘uninstall/change’ at the top of the list.

If you are using windows 10, the ‘Control Panel’ is found under ‘Settings’. From there, select ‘System’. Then from the buttons at the side click ‘Apps & features’. Wait till it finishes loading. A list will appear of all the programs installed. Scroll over the look for the antivirus software. Once you find it, click it. A drop down will appear with the ‘uninstall’ button at the bottom.

One important reminder is that you can only uninstall one program at a time. Wait until the first uninstallation process is done before you uninstall another. This applies to all the installed programs. Also, there are software that do not get uninstalled completely so you may need to run a disk cleanup.
